Carl Sorgatz

Village President

Carl is a uniquely qualified candidate to continue leading Winfield for the next four years as its President. Prior to his 6 years as Trustee, he was Treasurer for 5 years, a Trustee for the Police Pension Board, a Winfield Plan Commissioner for 6 years, served on numerous Village committees, commissions and task forces.

Having more than three decades of experience as a credit union CEO and Vice President, Carl understands the complexities of finance, business management, administration and more. He also served as Chairman of an Illinois state trade association board and on a national legislative committee. With executive training from a variety of top-tier institutions including Executive Education training at the University of Pennsylvania (Wharton), University of Virginia (Darden), and Cornell University (Johnson), Carl offers a wealth of professional experience and formal training to Winfield’s Village Board. Twice he has testified before congressional committees in Washington, D.C. as an industry expert.

Carl and his wife Maureen have three adult sons and have lived in Winfield for 39 years. Community involvement is important to Carl. In 2020 he helped to organize The Winfield Foundation, a 501c3 not-for-profit with the purpose of helping to fund community events such as the Winfield Criterium and Summerfest. He has also coached W.I.A. (Winfield in Action) youth basketball, baseball, and soccer. Maureen and Carl have also donated a piano to the Ronald McDonald House in Winfield in support of its mission.

Now retired, Carl is anxious to continue serving for another four years as Village President, working together with others, along with a commitment to keep moving Winfield forward.
